Omoda E5 — Compact Electric SUV: What It Is, What’s Under the Skin, and Why It’s Interesting

The Omoda E5 is a compact, value-focused electric crossover that combines modern styling, a single-motor front-drive layout, and a 60 kWh-class battery into a family-friendly package. It’s designed for drivers who want modern EV technology without premium pricing, and it’s already launched in several global markets.

Powertrain & Motor

  • Motor type: Front-mounted permanent-magnet synchronous motor (PMSM)

  • Output: Around 150 kW (≈204 hp) and 340 Nm of torque

  • Drive: Front-wheel drive

This setup delivers lively performance for its class — the Omoda E5 accelerates from 0–100 km/h in about 7.2–7.6 seconds, offering smooth and quiet electric torque in everyday driving.

Battery, Range & Charging

  • Battery capacity: About 61 kWh (gross), with roughly 60 kWh usable

  • Battery type: Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) “blade” style cells, designed for safety and long cycle life

  • Range (WLTP): Up to 430 km on a full charge

  • DC fast charging: Peak power around 80 kW (30–80 % in roughly 28 minutes)

  • AC charging: Onboard charger between 6.6 kW and 11 kW (depending on market), for a full charge in 3–8 hours

In everyday use, energy consumption sits around 15–16 kWh per 100 km, which helps the E5 achieve its competitive driving range.

Dimensions & Practicality

  • Length: 4,400 mm

  • Width: 1,830 mm

  • Height: 1,590 mm

  • Wheelbase: Approximately 2,610–2,630 mm

  • Kerb weight: Around 1,700–1,735 kg

The E5 offers balanced proportions and a comfortable cabin for a compact SUV, with a modern, tech-oriented interior layout.

Boot / Luggage Capacity

  • Boot volume: Approximately 380 litres with seats up, expanding to 1,075 litres with the rear seats folded

For a detailed look at the boot, including exact measurements in centimetres (depth, width, and height), you can check out my YouTube channel, where I posted a quick tour video showing the Omoda E5 inside and outside. The video includes the real measured boot dimensions, perfect for those who want to see how much space it truly offers.

Ride, Handling & Chassis

  • Front suspension: MacPherson strut

  • Rear suspension: Multi-link independent setup

  • Brakes: Disc brakes front and rear with regenerative braking

The suspension focuses on comfort and stability, providing a refined ride on city roads while maintaining composure on the highway.

Performance & Top Speed

  • 0–100 km/h: 7.2–7.6 seconds

  • Top speed: Around 170–172 km/h

Safety & Technology

The Omoda E5 is built with LFP blade-cell battery technology for enhanced safety. It features a modern driver-assistance system (ADAS), a dual curved digital display setup, a 360° camera, voice control, and an optional premium audio system on higher trims.

Charging Practicalities

With 80 kW DC fast-charging capability, the E5 can gain a useful top-up during a short break, though it’s not among the fastest-charging models in its class. For daily commuting, its efficient drivetrain and robust LFP battery chemistry make charging straightforward and cost-effective.

Who Is the Omoda E5 For?

The Omoda E5 is ideal for drivers who want a stylish, tech-loaded electric SUV with strong range and safety features at an accessible price. It competes with models like the BYD Atto 3 and MG ZS EV, often matching or exceeding them in value and equipment
